Designing different looking websites

So the learning activity this week was short and sweet. That fit me well, because I had a lot to do this week. I had originally planned to make the different designs in Illustrator, but I chose to try out Adobe Xd for this assignment. It was a nice software with a lot of neat features, so I might use again in the future. Even though I think Illustrator works better for a static design such as in this task.

The brief: Copy the exact content from a homepage of a website of your choice. Now redesign this homepage in three different ways. Each design should evoke a different emotional response from viewers. You can choose what you would like these emotional responses to be.

I went online to look for inspiration, and chose to use Telia.no as the sample site. I wanted a company that sells some sort of service or product, a inherently corporate site. Here is what their landing page currently looks like:

It looks like you would expect for a phone-company like Telia. Kind of neutral and simple. I like the big image box that occupies most of the landing page. The purple is eye-catching and attracts the eye to the text.

Corporate/commercial design

For this design, I wanted to go for a simple, professional look. The kind of web design you see a lot of start-ups and businesses use. It. I would use a image carousel that shows different backgrounds. Just simple colors and a simple design. I emphasized the difference between the navbar and the body container with a stroke and a shadow. Also the white color is slightly darker, to add a little contrast.

Minimalist design

I love minimalism. Being able to convey meaning and feeling with as little as possible is a very interesting concept. I wanted to have a landing page that used big, bold typography and had very few visual elements. I added a simple, sleek navbar, a body text, a button and a image. I used a rounded font and decided to only have the text in lowercase, to make it feel more playful and less formal.

Clean design

I used the image from the actual Telia home page for this one. I wanted to make a similar look, with some small changes. I stretched the image to almost span the entire page, with a white navbar on top. I placed the typography on the image, instead of in a box element. Lastly I added some white rectangles to make the design a little bit more visually interesting and to draw the eye towards the text. I used a fat sans serif to make it more fun and youthful.
